WISCONSIN INCENTIVES SUMMARY
Business Development Tax Credit Program (BTC)
Provides refundable income tax credits based on job creation, capital investment, training, and the location or retention of corporate headquarters. The tax credit is available for up to ten years for each project.
Job Creation - The benefit may equal up to ten percent of the annual wages for new, full-time jobs, with an additional five percent available for companies in an economically distressed area. Wages over $100,000 per year are not eligible for the tax credit.
Training - Tax credits for training may equal up to 50 percent of eligible training costs to enhance employee employability, general knowledge, and skills development training unique to the business workplace or equipment.
Capital Investment - Tax credits for new capital investment of up to three percent of personal property investment and up to five percent of new real property investment. Projects must have a total capital investment of at least $250,000; for projects involving a capital investment of less than $250,000, a total capital investment of at least $10,000 per eligible employee.
Corporate Headquarters - Tax credits for the location or retention of a corporate headquarters in Wisconsin may be up to ten percent of annual wages paid to new or retained eligible employees connected to the headquarters facility. Wages of employees earning $100,000 or more do not qualify for a tax credit. Jobs created or retained over three years are eligible for the tax credit.
Enterprise Zone Program (EZ)
The EZ provides refundable tax credits to companies that locate to or expand in an EZ and create or retain jobs. Retention projects must have a minimum of 500 full-time employees, while expansion projects must increase jobs by ten percent. Companies may qualify for EZ Tax Credits in one or more categories: Job Creation, Job Retention, Training Tax Credit, Capital Investments, and Wisconsin Supply Chain.
Wisconsin Fast Forward Grants (WFF)
WFF addresses employee skills gaps through customized training grants designed to assist companies in training both new and existing employees. The program encourages collaboration between Wisconsin companies and workforce training partners to develop and implement customized training programs.
